Mason Marsh is a photographer, educator, writer, and podcaster in Portland, Oregon. When he’s not wrangling his two stubborn kids, he’s helping photographers strengthen their passion for photography through classes, workshops, articles, and podcast episodes. He doesn’t get enough time with his cameras, and this bothers him.

Experience
Mason had worked as an award-winning newspaper photojournalist for several years when an assignment on a historic sailing ship led to a career in experiential education, (first aboard tall ships and later in aerospace museums). He eventually landed in Portland, Oregon, where he put down roots. At home in the Pacific Northwest, he’s been leading photography workshops for ten years and has been a mentor in Trey Ratcliff’s Arcanum. He teaches online photography courses for Road Scholar, the world leader in lifelong learning, and co-hosts the podcast Photocombobulate with his friend Jeff Carlson. He does these things when he’s neglecting his duties as a stay-at-home dad. Laundry never sleeps.
Education
Mason earned a BA in Journalism from Whitworth University in his hometown of Spokane, Washington. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and UAV Pilot.
Favorite photography subject
People. While much of my work meanders amongst natural places, I really enjoy the dynamics of photographing people, especially in their element.
